{"id":2906,"date":"2015-04-08T07:05:37","date_gmt":"2015-04-08T11:05:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/?page_id=2906"},"modified":"2017-04-10T07:56:01","modified_gmt":"2017-04-10T11:56:01","slug":"faq-how-to-download-raw-dna-from-familytree-dna-and-upload-to-gedmatch","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/?page_id=2906","title":{"rendered":"FAQ &#8211; How to Download Raw DNA from Ancestry and Upload to GEDmatch"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"page-restrict-output\"><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #808000;\">Download and Upload Your Ancestry.com Raw DNA Data Files<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 the download and the upload of your raw DNA data file from Ancestry.com to GEDmatch.com is accomplished in two steps.\u00a0 You will first need to download your DNA data file from ancestry.com to your device.\u00a0 Then you will need to upload your data from your device to your GEDmatch.com account.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1)<\/strong>\u00a0 On your main AncestryDNA home page you&#8217;ll need to click on the settings button:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Anestry_Gedmatch-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4231\" src=\"https:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Anestry_Gedmatch-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Anestry_Gedmatch-1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Anestry_Gedmatch-1-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>2)<\/strong>\u00a0 Then on the right panel click on &#8220;Get Started&#8221; under &#8220;Download your raw DNA file&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Anestry_Gedmatch-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4232\" src=\"https:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Anestry_Gedmatch-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"302\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Anestry_Gedmatch-2.jpg 302w, https:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Anestry_Gedmatch-2-300x170.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 302px) 100vw, 302px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>3)\u00a0<\/strong> Ancestry.com will send you an email confirming your download request.\u00a0 You will need to go to your email, and click on &#8220;Confirm Data Download&#8221;.\u00a0 It will take you back to ancestry.com, where you will click on the Download DNA Raw Data button.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nNOTE<\/strong>:\u00a0 Mac users are reporting that their data files are getting &#8216;un-zipped&#8217; as soon as they try to download them from their testing company web site.<\/p>\n<p>This causes problems for the upload utilities at GEDmatch.Com, since it expects to receive files in the same format as provided by the testing company.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0Safari &#8220;Preferences\/General&#8221;\u00a0the &#8220;Open safe files after downloading&#8221; at the bottom\u00a0should be unchecked\u00a0(the default is checked).<\/p>\n<p>If the box is checked, the file is automatically unzipped and the zip file is moved to the &#8220;trash&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Anestry_Gedmatch-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4233\" src=\"https:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Anestry_Gedmatch-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"388\" height=\"115\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Anestry_Gedmatch-3.jpg 388w, https:\/\/morrison-q.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Anestry_Gedmatch-3-300x89.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 388px) 100vw, 388px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>4)<\/strong>\u00a0 Save the file somewhere on your computer that you can find it. It should save as a zip file.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5)<\/strong>\u00a0 You should end up with a file in your Downloads folder which can then be uploaded to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gedmatch.com\">www.gedmatch.com<\/a>.\u00a0 Register for an account with GEDmatch if you do not already have one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6)<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0Select the\u00a0<strong>Generic Upload<\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u00a0<em>FAST<\/em><\/strong><\/span> option in Raw DNA File Uploads block.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7)<\/strong>\u00a0 Fill out the form per instructions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8)<\/strong>\u00a0 At the bottom left-hand side of the page, click \u201cChoose File\u201d to find your raw DNA data zip file on your computer.\u00a0 Once selected, the name of the zip file will appear in that block.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9)<\/strong>\u00a0 Then on the bottom right-hand side of the page, click \u201cUpload\u201d to send your DNA date to GEDmatch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10)\u00a0<\/strong> It&#8217;s\u00a0IMPORTANT\u00a0that you wait for all chromosomes to load. It generally takes about 5-10 minutes. It will tell you when it&#8217;s finished.\u00a0Write down the kit number that it assigns to your upload.\u00a0 Also, please email your kit number to <a href=\"mailto:renebryson@gmail.com\">renebryson@gmail.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>11)\u00a0<\/strong> Once you have loaded your data, you will be able to use some features of the site within a couple of minutes.
