We have set a goal of identifying and testing (Y-STR & Y-SNP DNA) at least one descendant of each of the forth generation males of Morrison-Q. These descendants must be down the paternal line – passing Y-DNA from father to son. The first generation being the four immigrant brothers: James, William, Andrew, and Thomas. The second generation being the sons of the four immigrant brothers. The third generation being the sons of the four immigrant brothers’ sons. The forth generation being the sons of the third generation. We have identified 124 forth generation males of Morrison-Q and have assigned each a four character code – referred to as the Q-Males number. The code explanation is as follows:
- Code Key for Q-Males number
- 1st character (Capital Letter) – Immigrant Brother (1st gen)
- J = James, W = William, T = Thomas, A = Andrew
- B = Buffalo Shoals James Morrison – he married the daughter of Immigrant Brother James Morrison – so, all his descendants are connected to Morrison-Q through her.
- 2nd character (Number) – Son of Immigrant Brother (2nd gen)
- 1 = 1st son, 2 = 2nd son, 3 = 3rd son, etc.
- 3rd character (Lower Case Letter) – Son of 2nd Generation Male (3rd gen)
- a = 1st son, b = 2nd son, c = 3rd son, etc.
- 4th character (Lower Case Letter) – Son of 3nd Generation Male (4th gen)
- a = 1st son, b = 2nd son, c = 3rd son, etc.
- 1st character (Capital Letter) – Immigrant Brother (1st gen)
- Example: T1cg
- The “T” indicates through the line of Immigrant Brother Thomas. The “1” indicates through the line of Thomas’ first son, William. The “c” indicates through the line of William’s third son, John. The “g” indicates through the line of John’s seventh son, Andrew Morrison.
There are two documents related to this project – under the “Charts (Members Only)” section of the right column – these documents are updated when progress is made or new information is found:
- Q-Males Line Chart
- This chart shows known Morrison-Q male lines down to the seventh generation. It also shows where members of Morrison-Q fit into the tree.
- Q-Males Checklist
- This is a condensed version of the chart – only showing up to the forth generation. The four character codes representing each forth generation males will be shown in one of three color coded blocks. Purple – A descendant has been tested. Red – Line has no living paternal descendants. Gray – no descendant has yet been identified or tested.
